Business Goals and Business Requirements are two separate constructs. However, we will use both of these kPIs as metrics to assess each of the Business Intelligence Asset Base components. The metrics will be applied in much the same manner and at the same time during the audit.
Business Goals are definitions of specific management plans and objectives which have been communicated to and are used by the organization in running the business. These should include both strategic objectives and tactical goals. ( Strategic objectives are long term and these identify organization direction and planning strategies, i.e. up to five years or more. Tactical goals are short term, usually a year or less, and include goals which are designed to support the satisfaction of the long term goals.)
Those organizations with the best Business Intelligence will gain competitive advantage. However, best depends on what the organization needs. Clear targets and understanding of the business must be defined by management and communicated across the organization. A lot of people are involved in making decisions re Business Intelligence. Unless, each and every one of them knows what is best for the organization, those decisions will not make for successful Business Intelligence.
Business Requirements are tied directly to the individual BI application - as voiced by all the customers. This includes the end users of the BI, as well as the organization.
